What I Don't Understand

Community, Collaboration, and Responsibility

• Wanting to belong to a community only when you are receiving recognition, attention, or personal benefit.

• Saying you want collaboration while being unwilling to contribute your share of the time, work, ideas, or responsibility.

• Claiming a good idea as your own for others even though someone else thought of it.

• Wanting ownership or credit for something without accepting responsibility for developing, maintaining, or supporting it.

• Expecting someone else to create the opportunity, build the structure, and do the work while you arrive primarily to benefit from it.

• Wanting community while continuing to operate from competition rather than cooperation.

Knowledge, Teaching, and Intellectual Integrity

• Wanting to teach without first becoming a serious student of what you are teaching.

• Wanting students without taking the time to develop a thoughtful, organized, and substantive course.

• Believing that once you have learned something, you no longer need to continue studying, questioning, or updating your knowledge.

• Taking another person's knowledge, teachings, ideas, or course material and presenting them as your own.

• Using another person's intellectual or spiritual work for financial gain without permission, acknowledgment, or genuine understanding of the material.

• Repeating information you cannot explain, apply, defend, or teach independently.

• Confusing the ability to repeat someone's knowledge with actually possessing the understanding and experience behind that knowledge.

Spiritual and Intuitive Responsibility

• Charging people for psychic, intuitive, or spiritual work without developing the skills necessary to practice responsibly.

• Giving intuitive information without being concerned about whether the information is accurate.

• Doing intuitive work without understanding personal, spiritual, or energetic boundaries.

• Assuming that receiving intuitive information automatically gives you permission to share it.

• Failing to consider the effect your words may have on someone who has come to you in a vulnerable state.

• Claiming extraordinary psychic or spiritual abilities without questioning, testing, developing, or substantiating those abilities.

• Making specific claims about spirit guides, messages, or spiritual communication simply because those claims make you appear more spiritually important or authoritative.

Spirituality, Ego, and Higher Consciousness

• Wanting to be perceived as spiritually advanced more than wanting to do the work required to become spiritually mature.

• Using spiritual terminology, dimensions, abilities, or levels of consciousness as status symbols.

• Claiming a level of consciousness without understanding what that level of consciousness actually represents.

• Talking about higher consciousness while continuing to operate through competition, superiority, ego, ownership, judgment, and division.

• Using spiritual language primarily as a marketing strategy to gain followers, likes, clients, recognition, or money.

• Turning spirituality into a performance rather than a practice.

• Using spirituality to elevate yourself above other people rather than using it to become more responsible for how you affect them.

Culture, Difference, and Judgment

• Assuming that someone's inability to correctly pronounce words in another language automatically reflects prejudice or racism.

• Criticizing someone who is genuinely attempting to communicate across a language or cultural difference rather than recognizing the vulnerability involved in trying.

• Correcting, judging, or labeling people so aggressively that they become afraid to ask questions, participate, or even try.

• Condemning prejudice in others while failing to recognize prejudice within yourself.

• Expecting people to understand cultural experiences they have never lived without allowing them the space to learn, ask questions, and sometimes make mistakes.

Boundaries, Relationships, and Accountability

• Being surprised when someone establishes a boundary or ends a relationship after their work, trust, ideas, or contributions have been misused.

• Publicly declaring that you are finished with "drama" while continuing behaviors that repeatedly create conflict.

• Using relationships primarily for personal advancement and then being confused when those relationships deteriorate.

• Expecting forgiveness, access, or continued friendship without first taking responsibility for the behavior that damaged the relationship.

• Calling someone's boundary cruel, selfish, or unfair simply because that boundary prevents you from continuing to benefit from them.

Money, Influence, and Exploitation

• Making money from another person's knowledge, creativity, vulnerability, or trust without considering the ethical responsibility that comes with doing so.

• Believing that the ability to monetize something automatically gives you the right to do it.

• Using spiritual authority to influence people financially without being accountable for the accuracy, quality, or integrity of what you are providing.

• Wanting the financial rewards of being a teacher, healer, intuitive, or spiritual practitioner without investing in the education, discipline, ethics, and personal development the work requires.

The Question Underneath All of It

What I ultimately don't understand is the contradiction between what we say we want and how we choose to behave.

We say we want community, but compete with one another.

We say we want collaboration, but sometimes refuse to contribute.

We say we want truth, but sometimes prefer the version that protects our ego.

We say we want higher consciousness, but continue operating through division, superiority, ownership, and recognition.

We say we want to teach, but sometimes resist being students.

We say we want integrity in spiritual work, but sometimes tolerate practices we would immediately recognize as unethical in any other profession.

And perhaps the part I understand least is this:

If we genuinely believe we are here to help move human consciousness forward, why are we still so willing to diminish, exploit, compete with, or harm the very people we are supposedly trying to awaken?

Many people are wondering why we are going through such chaos over the last few years and why it doesn’t stop. Here is what I think happened, and I’d like to share it with you.

We won World War II Soldiers came home with high hopes. The government helped ALL of us get back on our feet by building a middle class through programs that provided housing and jobs enough for all, and we took off! There was plenty for all of us. We became the economic driver for ourselves, and our generosity rebuilt a war-torn Europe as well. There was a chicken in every pot. We understood that success depends on including everyone in society, or at least that’s what we professed. Then something happened...As we grew, some grew faster than others. America has always been the incubator for innovation and invention. As Europe and the rest of the world began to prosper, we saw new markets for our industries. As competition grew, the old fears of “losing our edge” began to surface and with it, the insecurities of “there is not enough”. Winning became the only worthy goal. With this fear-based mentality, those that grew faster began to buy up smaller businesses, began competing between themselves and the 1960’s ushered in the “Mad Man” era of business...anything goes as long as you win. By then the disparities between what we professed and what was really happening began to show. As more and more businesses consolidated and collaborated, they began to control supply and demand and manipulate markets. Free competition began to wane. The divide between the wealthy few and the rest of us began to grow. Our sense of community (we are all in this together) began to erode. Our sense of responsibility as citizens and our moral obligations to each other eroded. The younger generation who grew up in the prosperity of the 1940’s and 50’s, saw the hypocrisy between the words and the practices of society. We tried to change them, we won some and lost some but overall the turmoil during the 1960’s and 70’s increased our awareness of the moral responsibilities to each other. Business, however, did not change much, as they grew so id their social, economic and political power.

The Universe has a way of teaching us lessons when needed. For many years, we, in America, have been sleepwalking our way through our lives not taking care to look around us and see the shifts within our society. Greed, selfishness, manipulation, callousness, excess, corruption, wars and hate have all reared their ugly heads once again. This Universal mirror needs to be our wakeup call. Trump is not the problem, he is only the extreme example of all these traits.

The Universe is showing us what we have become and it isn’t pretty. If we don’t wake up, this will be our future. Our founding fathers gave us a universal template of how the world should be, it is up to us to regain our moral compass, take responsibility for what we have created and as citizens, turn back to the light, change the direction we are going, and create universal love, peace and harmony for the family of Man. No one will make it, if we don’t ALL make it.
